IGN 4-00-01 Issue 1 December 1984 The preparation of British Standards

Introduction

Whilst still of some relevance, the Standards Board has decided that any document published before 1990 should be archived.

For the current position (at April 2026) see IGN 4-00-03 Issue 1 February 2026 and the latest version of BS: 0 A Standard for Standards Principles of Standardization.

This lnformation and Guidance Note gave (at December 1984) information on the structure of the BSI and the role of Water Industry representatives in the preparation of British Standards. Whilst it will remain of general interest to anyone using British Standards or specifying products, it was intended primarily for the guidance of WAA and WCA representatives on BSI Committees. It may also have been useful to those members of the Industry (who at the time were) representing IWES and other water related organisations or industries (or current equivalents). With selective interpretation it has some residual value.
