Water UK has decided to change its approach to:
- management of both the standards it owns and controls (Water Industry Specifications and Information and Guidance Notes); and
- the way it facilitates its Members’ responses to consultation by BSI on national (BS), European (EN) and International (ISO) standards.
Historically, these roles were undertaken by the Water UK Standards Board. During Spring 2026 a decision was taken to transition to their being undertaken by a Water Standards Network. This brings standards management more in line with the ‘network’ approach already widely adopted across a variety of WUK’s activities.
To that end, the WUK Standards Board will cease operation with effect from the close of business on 5th May 2026 and the new Standards Network will undertake those of the Board’s functions it intends should continue – as well as determining WUK’s future focus & priorities in this area.
The transition is being overseen by Panos Achilleos, WUK Head of Resilience, pending further clarification of the Standards Network’s membership, focus and priorities. This will include amending the relevant pages of this website as the transition progresses.
Water UK extends its thanks to current and former Board members and the independent consultants who, in combination, have previously provided this standards management service over many years.
