IGN 4-00-02 Issue 1 March 1994 The evaluation of new products and processes developed for water industry pipelines
Introduction
This document describes the situation that existed in 1994. Significant changes have occurred since that time including within: water quality regulation; Water UK’s stewardship of WIS and IGNs’ development; the role of UKWIR; and the selection and progression of innovative initiatives within individual WUK member organisations.
This document has therefore been archived.
However, the broad principles described in this IGN remain applicable and the topic remains one which WUK receives regular enquiries about.
If sufficient industry representation can be identified it would be a good topic for a Task and Finish Group to address – assembled from organisations comprising a ‘coalition of the willing’.
In the interim, a good place to start now (April 2026) would be to refer to IGN 4-00-03 Issue 1 February 2026, which includes (inter-alia) signposting to the requirements for compliance with drinking water regulation.
