This Code of Practice covers the requirements needed to provide protective coatings for pipelines constructed of plastic, iron, steel, asbestos cement, or concrete using resin materials approved for in situ lining of potable water mains. This currently includes two part epoxy resin and two part rapid setting polyurethane materials. Issues considered include:

  • resin materials;
  • approvals required;
  • scheme preparation;
  • pipeline cleaning;
  • application of coating;
  • curing;
  • quality control procedures;
  • disinfection; and
  • rectification of lining defects.

One or more ‘Common Editorial Caveats’ apply – see ‘WIS & IGN Library / Navigation & Caveats’ for details.

Elements of the IGN have been overtaken by developments in materials & lining rig technology. The Standards Board has requested (Autumn 2021) that the IGN (and the associated WIS 4-02-01) are revised by the recently re-formed ‘Resin Lining Expert Group’.
